9 ways to make 2025 your best year yet
Let's start the year on the right foot!
Hey honeys and hustlers,
“How you do everything is how you do everything.” That's a lazy way to motivate people not to be lazy. A better phrase is that if you truly wanted to show up as your best self in everything, you would make the time to figure out the conditions you need to be your best self most of the time. Because let’s be real, no one is ever 100%. While sheer will, desire, and belief are nice to have, they are not the end all be all in earning success and character building. I can't think of one kid who says they want to grow up to be less than their potential for greatness.
All good work starts with a good plan. So let’s plan to have an amazing year, together. New Year’s resolutions aren’t my jam, but a little pre-production and film treatment never hurt anyone. After all, you are the main character of your life, right?!
Declutter from 2024. Donate clothes, unsubscribe to apps and services that no longer serve you, and throw away things you no longer use (like those Christmas leftovers in the fridge). Start 2025 with a clean slate.
Review your wins and lessons from 2024. Don't discount the progress and lessons from last year. They're your foundation for this year.
To identify what to prioritize and what to attempt to delegate or delete from your days, make a two-column list and write what drains you on one side and what gives you energy on the other. Last year, I deleted unnecessary meetings to focus on creating more. I also added twice weekly workouts (aka spin class and time in nature). Those two changes did so much for my productivity.
Pick one big goal for the year, the more challenging the better. What’s one thing you want to accomplish this year?
I've got big plans for 2025 (including the launch of new video courses, weekly YouTube videos, seasonal creative sprints, and Notion docs and templates), but I can't do it without your help! I'm currently at 5 paid subscribers and would love to reach 10 by my birthday, January 27th. When you become a paid subscriber, you're not just supporting me, you're investing in your education and supporting the work of telling more inclusive stories.
Paid subscribers get access to exclusive content, seasonal creative sprints, and member-only AMA. Your subscription supports me in creating the thoughtful, in-depth content you’ve come to know and love while paying it forward to other incredible, passionate creators. If you're in a position to pay for a subscription, I ask that you consider doing so. If you're unable to right now, that's cool. Your shares and kind words mean the world to me.
Have 3 main things that you want to optimize and prioritize this year. Allow room for adjustments along the way. This will determine how you spend your time pursuing these north stars.
Plan for rest and breaks. Start with one inspiration break a quarter. An inspiration break can be whatever you define it as. A weekend spent doing absolutely nothing with friends. A concert. A day trip to the beach. An industry event, festival or conference. Whatever you decide, it doesn’t even have to involve spending money. As long it’s something for you.
Build time in nature into your routine. Creatives need time to be bored, and walking in nature feels like the cheat code for clear thinking and new idea generation.
Build a routine for learning. Listening to podcasts on your commute, watching YouTube while you cook, and reading books before bed – all examples of how you can spend short amounts of time that compound into a huge impact over time.
Celebrate progress, not just results — It’s about the journey as much as the destination. You’re going to miss a day posting, you’re not always going to feel like being active. But the more you show up, and give yourself grace for the times you can’t, the more you’ll see progress. Start small. Stay consistent. You’ll thank yourself later.
Reflecting on the year and starting 2025 strong doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Here’s a simple Notion template I created, use, and follow (it’s completely free):
