Is Twitter a Video First Platform?

Elon Musk wants it to be, but do we?

Hey honeys and hustlers,

Elon Musk is openly trying to attract long-form video creators to Twitter, likely in hopes that they will be good conduits for ads – a scarce source of income for the platform nowadays. Don Lemon has already indicated that he will be bringing his show to the platform and Mr. Beast just re-posted an old video that did well on his YouTube to the platform (and it’s seeing similar success). I’ve seen my share of podcasters posting their full 1+ hour-long episodes directly to the platform, but I’m curious:

Other than the 35-minute-long Club Shay Shay video featuring Shannon Sharpe and Katt Williams that was shared at the beginning of the year, I can’t say that I have. To make this work, I think they’d have to

  • create a separate tab for videos that allows them to stay “docked” in one place while viewing

  • create a more robust system for analytics and monetization

  • allow people who aren’t subscribed to Twitter Blue/Premium/Grok/wtf to post long-form videos

And that’s just what I can think of right now.

I’m still using Twitter, daily

I know, Twitter isn’t what it used to be. While I’m excited to dig into Threads more (it’s a photographer’s paradise and doesn’t have ads), I still feel that Twitter has a grip on news and culture, which can be helpful when growing your target audience. Here’s a video on a tool I use to post consistently on Twitter and track my growth. I’m not sure where Twitter is headed in terms of being a platform for publishing long-form videos, but if that’s something that becomes a free option, this is likely the tool I’ll be using to try it out. This video is very nerdy, I hope you enjoy it.

Meet Notion Calendar

I use Notion to organize almost every part of my business, and the Notion Calendar could soon become part of that ecosystem (once they make an Android app). Notion Calendar is a revamped product of Cron, a standalone calendar app they acquired in 2022. You can import your calendar from your existing email address and pair it with any calendar databases you may already have in Notion. It’s a free tool that could be a Calendly or SavvyCal replacement. It pays to save people money. Here’s a little video from the Notion team telling you more about the product with a link to sign up in the description.
