Should I Record Myself Reading This?

And other delightful questions I don't have answers to yet.

Hey honeys and hustlers,

Kendrick Lamar and Amazon set the standard for Juneteenth performances, Chelsea Gray returned to play for the Las Vegas Aces, and I just finished watching the second half of Bridgerton season 3 (….okay, maybe rewatching it). I just got the first draft of Trail Therapy back from my editor so that’s consuming my conscience at the moment. I don’t have much to add this week but before we jump into some news, I do have a question:

Watch The Replay

As you may already have seen, I’m an ambassador for this year’s Afros and Audio podcast festival. I sat down with Shamiko Reid to talk about why I liked the festival enough to promote it, and we also talked about how this newsletter is going (hence where the question above comes from). If you’re interested in going to this year’s festival, early bird ticket discounts end on July 1 and you can use my code “AFAU24HNH” to get an additional 15% discount. If you missed the live you can catch the replay below!

Conversations Over Cleats

Brianna Pinto of the North Carolina Courage women’s soccer team partnered with Mike Phillips, founder of Sircastletees, to create a custom pair of soccer cleats to honor Juneteenth. The money from the winning bid will go to we are, a nonprofit that we’ve featured on Honey & Hustle. It’s too late to bid on the shoes but links to watch and listen to that episode are below to check out the awesome organization that will benefit from the proceeds!

You can also listen on Apple Podcasts and leave us a review.

Durham Chef Savannah Miller makes finale of Top Chef

Savannah Miller is the executive chef at Glasshouse Kitchen (incredible brunch menu) in Raleigh. She previously partnered with Chef Michael Lee here in Durham to open M Tempura, a part of his line of M restaurants serving East Asian cuisines in intimate settings (I still haven’t been able to snag a table at one). She’s made it to the season 21 finale of Top Chef on Bravo, which aired last night. She didn’t win (boooo!), but seeing a North Carolina chef on a national TV stage is awesome!

I hope y’all are enjoying Pride Month. Please hustle responsibly,

🤙🏾✨

Here are some next steps if you'd like to implement what I shared today.
