Three Creators, One Ingredient

Food creators to inspire your Memorial Day menu.

In partnership with

Hey honeys and hustlers,

Today is the unofficial first day of summer, and I’m bringing you some recipes from food creators to help make your summer grill and cookouts more fun. Food creators aren’t a niche we’ve really covered in this newsletter, but there are some huge YouTube creators in this niche – Hot Ones, Chicken Shop Date, Good Mythical Morning, Binging with Babish, and more. So I wanted to put a spin on things and highlight some underrepresented creators who are serving up mouth-watering meal inspo for your summer. And yes, I’m inclusive of vegan people, though I will never give up fried catfish or good BBQ.

P.S. I’ll be back on Substack live a few times this week, so come by and say hello! I’ll be joining Michelle and Corey on Wednesday evening at 8PM EST, and Steve Pratt on Thursday afternoon at 4PM EST.

Todd Anderson (@turnipvegan)

Turnip Vegan is a content creator, recipe creator, videographer, and mushroom lover who focuses on veganism and the many benefits it can have for your body and mind. His mission is to show the world that veganism is not just a diet, but an all-encompassing lifestyle that can help people lead healthier lives. When creating vegan dishes from scratch, he often uses mushrooms, walnuts, jackfruit, and other plant-based items as key ingredients. He has a blog, multiple e-books, a monthly membership club that gives you access to all his recipes, and seems to be most actively posting videos on his Instagram (which currently has over 800K followers).

Shanika Graham-White (@orchidsnsweettea)

Her cooking videos on Threads give me life, and her website is gorgeous and easy to navigate. I know I sound like I’m gushing or fan-girling, because I am, but I love how she incorporates videos across her website as well. On top of creating videos on YouTube and Instagram (where she has over 400K followers), she also has a podcast called Scratch Everything, a cookbook, her own spice blends, and a newsletter. I support the maximalist in all of us. Many of her recipes stem from her Jamaican and Southern heritage, but she makes recipes for all diets and backgrounds.

Charles Hunter III (@thesaltedtable)

Charles Hunter III is a personal chef, blogger, and recipe developer based in Nashville, TN. He is the creator of The Salted Table, a space where he tells stories about food through his Substack, his boutique catering experiences, and his Instagram (with more than 20K followers). His style feels warm, slow, and intentional – all the great makings of a full-course meal.

I studied at the Rel Maples Institute of Culinary Arts, which really strengthened my foundation in cooking when it comes to the science of how it all works. But I attribute a lot of my ability to cook to my family members that I spent innumerable hours following around the kitchen, asking where I could help….All I want to do as a personal chef is inspire people to gather together, eat well and love each other.

If we curated a dinner for creators and entrepreneurs to gather, would you be interested in attending?
