What's the best celebrity podcast?
This celebrity is the ultimate personality hire.
Hey honeys and hustlers,
Why would a 3x Super Bowl Champion and Fox Sports TV host making $3M/year create a video podcast? I try to answer that question in a podcast episode, dissecting Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay. You may remember him from another article I posted last year around this time, The Superbowl's Biggest Loser. Whether it’s the multimillion-dollar deals that go to people who could easily afford to self-produce a podcast without outside funding or the subpar audio production quality that goes into these shows, celebrities get a bad rap in the podcast industry. With some inspiration from the folks at Good Tape who curated a celebrity issue, I’ve jumped deep into the celebrity podcast world of gossip to hopefully provide a different perspective to this conversation. If you’re not ready to jump into the celebrity podcast space with a curated list from Earbuds Podcast Collective, may I suggest a few of my favorite episodes from Club Shay Shay if you’re unfamiliar with the show to give you a little background context on the man of the hour (more like 6 minutes):
John Cena (two middle-aged, single men. Something I am not, so it’s a different perspective.)
Keke Palmer (she’s hilarious, and this interview was part of her book tour)
Keith Lee (a vulnerable interview with the introverted food reviewer)
Sheryl Underwood (two Black former TV personalities)
I can’t speak for all celebrity podcasts, but for this show in particular, I think there’s more than meets the eye.

P.S. KeKe Palmer’s deep dive was the most requested episode on Linkedin and it went live today! Let me know what you think!

// NPR’s Tiny Desk is doing a series of concerts for Black History Month, and I want to make a video about why these videos are so much more effective than the music videos artists pay thousands of dollars for. Stay tuned for that video dropping on YouTube. I’m trying to stay consistent on there the whole year so let me know if there’s any topic you’d like to see me discuss! If you’re looking for music recommendations in the meantime, tomorrow (February 7th) has officially been proclaimed as Dilla Day in Detroit. So bump some J Dilla this weekend and forever.
// As some of you may know, I also write a newsletter focused on women athletes. Next month is March Madness and that will be a big time for us. To stay consistent here, I’m thinking of accepting pitches for guest posts and cross-posts. If you write about the creator economy, mindfulness for entrepreneurs, or anything else related to creativity, let me know if you’d be interested in getting your words in front of nearly 1,000 creators! I can’t guarantee to include everyone who pitches, but if there’s a way to uplift the folks in this community, I’m excited to talk about your ideas! Just respond to this email and let me know, nothing formal needed.
// I’m exploring the possibility of using AI to automatically match folks who join the Creator Database with mentors and resources. Is that something that would be helpful to you guys? Would you be opposed because you don’t like the increased adoption of AI? Let me know your thoughts. And if you haven’t signed up, you should do that. 😁
If you made it this far and you haven’t subscribed yet…well, I’d love to have you join us. However you create, I want to support you in doing more of what you’re passionate about.
